Feeding His Community, One Neighbor at a Time: Arthur's Story

For Arthur, feeding his community isn't just about providing groceries. It's about making sure his neighbors know someone is looking out for them.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Arthur has been providing food to families through Arthur's Brown Bag, a grassroots effort built on generosity, faith, and neighbors caring for neighbors. What began as a personal commitment has grown through word of mouth, reaching families from across Los Angeles who travel to his neighborhood in search of food.

Arthur describes his community as a food desert, where access to affordable, nutritious food is limited. Some families travel from as far as Torrance and Carson to receive groceries. For him, their willingness to make that journey is a reminder of just how widespread the need has become.

For years, Arthur has supported much of this work out of his own pocket. While securing resources and transporting donated food remain ongoing challenges, his commitment to serving his neighbors hasn't wavered. When asked how he continues to make it happen, Arthur is quick to redirect the credit to God.

Through Bel Air Rebuilds, our staff and congregation have the opportunity to come alongside Arthur, helping transport food, unload supplies, and support the work he has faithfully carried forward for years.

As part of a new initiative led by Pastor Drew, Bel Air Church staff are setting aside time each month to serve alongside our congregation through community partnerships across Los Angeles. For one staff member, a former Marine, serving with Arthur has been an opportunity to reconnect with his commitment to service and experience firsthand the impact of showing up for others.

Arthur's story reminds us of something central to Bel Air Rebuilds: God is already at work in our communities through faithful leaders who know their neighbors, understand their needs, and have been showing up long before we arrived.

Our role is to listen, build relationships, and offer the people and resources of Bel Air Church to strengthen the work already taking place. Through our partnership with Hollywood Food Coalition, we're able to come alongside community leaders like Arthur throughout Los Angeles, providing the resources and support they need to continue serving their neighbors. It's not about starting something new or taking the spotlight. It's about joining the work God is already doing and helping these community-led efforts grow.

As these partnerships continue to expand across Los Angeles, so does our opportunity to serve. Whether through volunteering, transporting food, or giving, there is a place for each of us to take part in what God is doing.
