What’s Beneath the Surface?
Every Sunday, hundreds of us gather at Bel Air.
We worship together. We hear the same Scripture. We pass each other in the aisles, grab coffee, say hello, and head back into another week.
From the surface, we are together.
But Pastor Drew invited us to look at what happens beneath the surface of a forest. Trees that appear to stand independently are connected underground. Roots stretch toward one another, creating a network that helps the forest withstand wind, drought, and storms.
Maybe there is something there for us.
Jesus says in John 15, “I am the vine; you are the branches.” We were created first and foremost to remain rooted in Him. But a life rooted in Christ was never meant to become an isolated life.
As we increase our Holy Attention, we begin noticing God and the people He has placed around us. The person sitting a few seats away becomes more than a familiar face. Someone learns our story. Someone knows when life is hard. We find people to pray with, laugh with, learn alongside, and follow Jesus with.
And sometimes that connection begins somewhere surprisingly ordinary.
It might happen around a table in a Life Group. In a class where you finally ask the question you have been carrying. Or even on a Wednesday night pickleball court where names become friendships and friendships become community.
There are opportunities beginning again across Bel Air to put down roots. Classes, Life Groups, Pickleball, and other gatherings are not simply more things to add to an already busy calendar. They are places where we can practice being present, become known, and help one another follow Jesus.
Sunday may be where we gather.
But what could God grow in your life if your roots went deeper than Sunday?
