Role Overview

Bel Air Church is seeking a part-time Sunday School Lead to provide assistance to the Kids’ Ministry team through administrative and classroom support, with the goal of effectively and creatively sharing the word of God with children.

We are looking for a team-oriented person with strong organizational skills, the ability to learn and use new systems, and who is excited to join us in support of the mission of Bel Air Church and the children and families we serve.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Sets up classrooms and takes care of any last-minute details that may arise.

  • Sets up check-in and audio/visual components of ministry.

  • Make sure that all volunteers are in their assigned areas.

  • Maintains a safe and playful environment for the children.

  • Provides instruction to students using prepared lesson plans.

  • Re-stocks snacks, wipes, diapers, crayons, colors, glue, etc.

  • Organizes and stores toys and materials to ensure safety and order in activity areas.

  • If necessary, help put Sunday materials away before leaving the campus.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements 

  • Preference of experience with children, parents, and volunteers

  • Strong computer literacy, with ability to learn new tools to accomplish tasks; experience with Planning Center and/or Church Community Builder preferred.

Education and/or Experience: High School Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: None required for this position.

Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and comprehend complex instructions and correspondence in English. Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts in a clear and fluid manner in one-on-one and group situations.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions. Ability to handle problems involving complex variables creatively and efficiently in varying situations, using sound judgement.

Accountability and Relationships 

Reports to: Kids’ Ministry Associate Director

Supervises: This role does not have supervisory duties.

Relates closely with: Kids’ Ministry Team, Kids’ Ministry Volunteers, Children and Families

Key team and meeting participation: Kids’ Ministry departmental meetings as requested; other key meetings as requested.

Schedule: This is a part-time position, scheduled for 6 hours/week:

  • Sundays: 7:30am – 1:30pm

Evaluation: Performance Evaluations will be conducted at least annually by the supervisor. If at any time the position description needs to be amended, the Kids’ Ministry Director will make necessary changes.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, and bend, the employee must have the ability to lift and carry children aged infant to 6 years old, as well as equipment and supplies into and out of classrooms. The employee must have the ability to spend time sitting on the floor and working at a child’s level. The employee may need to assist in pediatric toileting and first aid. This employee will routinely be required to use standard office equipment, such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, fax machines, scanners, and filling cabinets.

This job operates primarily in office and classroom settings. The position may come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious. The position will interact regularly with others in offices, classrooms, meeting spaces, and outdoor areas of the church campus, and potentially at off-campus sites, including while traveling to and from those sites.

Job Type: This is a part-time role, with a schedule of 6 hours per week: Sundays, 7:30am – 1:30pm

Salary: $18 per hour
