Role Overview

The Kids Ministry exists to teach and share the love of Christ with children, parents, and families. This is our mission, and this role is an integral part of it. A love of children and a desire to be part of this transforming work of the Holy Spirit is an essential part of this role. This team member will provide assistance to the Kids’ Ministry team through Sunday School preparation, key interaction with Kids, Parents and Volunteers, classroom maintenance, event prep and execution (particularly VBS) and curriculum assistance – all with creativity and joy.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties 

Sunday responsibilities:

  • Arrives sixty minutes prior to Sunday School start time to arrange materials and receive any Kids who arrive early.

  • Sets up classrooms and takes care of any last-minute details that may arise.

  • Sets up check-in.

  • Interacts with all scheduled volunteers to make sure they are in their assigned areas.

  • Maintains Sunday School attendance and safety logs involving the children (e.g., allergies, first aid performed, etc.)

  • Check on children and leaders throughout the morning service(s)

  • Re-stocks supplies as needed.

  • Clean-up classrooms after Sunday School & reset classrooms for the following week.

Weekday responsibilities (Monday & Thursday):

  • Re-stocks classroom supplies and let’s supervisor know when we are running low.

  • Ensures we have enough volunteers scheduled for the coming Sunday and reaches out to substitutes as needed.

  • Works on Sunday School curriculum

  • Including, but not limited to downloading each month’s curriculum, putting together weekly leader guides, preparing parent cues and coloring sheets, printing and cutting as needed, creating monthly supply list, and gathering needed supplies for the coming month.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Work at special events as needed.

  • Assists Kid’s Ministry Director in preparing for special events and executing them as needed, again, especially Vacation Bible School.

Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or GED; related experience preferred.

Computer Skills:

  • Demonstrates strong computer literacy, with emphasis on Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, MS Teams, and others.

  • Ability to learn, understand and effectively use CCB (data management), Planning Center, and other tools to accomplish departmental goals.

  • Ability to learn new skills/software/systems as necessary to the position.

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, and similar.

Relational Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (service oriented). Ability to foster productive working relationships with families, volunteers, and staff colleagues at all levels of the organization.

Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: None required for this position.

Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and comprehend complex instructions and correspondence in English. Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts in a clear and fluid manner in one-on-one and group situations.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to understand and calculate numbers to the extent required by the position.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions. Ability to handle problems involving complex variables creatively and efficiently in varying situations, using sound judgement.

Accountability and Relationships 

Reports to: Kids’ Ministry Director

Supervises: This role does not have supervisory duties.

Relates closely with: Kids’ Ministry Team, Kids’ Ministry Volunteers, Children and Families

Key team and meeting participation: Kids’ Ministry departmental meetings as requested; other key meetings as requested.

Schedule: This is a part-time position, scheduled for 20 hours/week:

  • Sundays, 7:30am – 1:30pm (6 hours)

  • Mondays, 9:30am – 4:30pm (7 hours)

  • Thursdays, 9:30am – 4:30pm (7 hours)

  • The current schedule supports programs for our 10am Worship Service. If our service times or number of services changes, this schedule may be adjusted accommodate need.

  • There may be times when there will need to be adjustments and/or additions made to the weekly schedule. Additionally, weekly scheduled hours may alter slightly depending on events and programming going on at the time.

Evaluation: Performance Evaluations will be conducted at least annually by the supervisor. If at any time the position description needs to be amended, the Kids’ Ministry Director will make necessary changes.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, and bend, the employee must have the ability to lift and carry children aged infant to 6 years old, as well as equipment and supplies into and out of classrooms. The employee must have the ability to spend time sitting on the floor and working at a child’s level. The employee may need to assist in pediatric toileting and first aid. This employee will routinely be required to use standard office equipment, such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, fax machines, scanners, and filling cabinets.

This job operates primarily in office and classroom settings. The position may come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious. The position will interact regularly with others in offices, classrooms, meeting spaces, and outdoor areas of the church campus, and potentially at off-campus sites, including while traveling to and from those sites.
